An Giang implements a plan to develop tourism into a key economic sector in the new era

27/10/2026

On October 23, 2026, the People's Committee of An Giang Province issued Plan No. 621/KH-UBND to implement the Government’s Resolution No. 263/NQ-CP (dated September 7, 2026) and the Provincial Party Standing Committee’s Plan No. 151/KH-TU (dated September 29, 2026). These documents pertain to the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW (dated August 22, 2026) on developing Vietnam’s tourism into a key economic sector for the new era.

The plan aims to leverage the role of tourism as a multifaceted economic sector—one that serves as a catalyst for growth, drives socio-economic development, and improves the quality of life for the people. It focuses on unlocking resources, enhancing the quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of the tourism industry, and utilizing the role of Phu Quoc as a growth pole—creating a ripple effect across the province’s tourism landscape—while ensuring cultural preservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The objectives for 2030 include: transforming An Giang’s tourism into a primary, key economic sector and a robust national hub for the maritime economy; establishing a high-quality, smart, green, safe, innovative, and culturally rich tourism ecosystem; and positioning An Giang as a branded, highly competitive destination with strong connectivity at the regional, national, and international levels. By 2045, the goal is for An Giang to become a tourism destination with a strong national and regional brand—distinguished by its offerings in ecology, culture, maritime and island tourism, river-based tourism, spiritual tourism, leisure, and border tourism—supported by a smart, green, innovative, and highly competitive tourism ecosystem. The plan sets specific targets for 2030, aiming for a total of approximately 57.41 million visitor arrivals—including about 4.83 million international visitors—and generating a total tourism revenue of approximately 161,515 billion VND. Tourism is expected to contribute about 15% to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). Furthermore, the plan targets the completion and integration of a shared tourism database, with the goal of ensuring that 100% of tourism-related data under the province's management is developed, standardized, and connected to this shared system. Additionally, it aims for over 90% of the direct workforce in the tourism sector to receive professional training and development.

To achieve these objectives, An Giang province will focus on eight key tasks and solutions: (1) Fundamentally transforming mindsets and enhancing awareness, responsibility, and action regarding tourism development; (2) Refining institutions and policies to create strategic breakthroughs, while unlocking and leveraging resources for tourism growth; (3) Developing comprehensive infrastructure, establishing highly competitive tourism hubs, reorganizing development space, perfecting urban-tourism planning and governance, and fostering the development of Phu Quoc as a national growth pole; (4) Developing markets and high-quality tourism products to enhance economic efficiency; (5) Strengthening and improving the effectiveness of tourism promotion and marketing to elevate the An Giang tourism brand; (6) Developing human resources, tourism enterprises, and local communities to meet new development requirements; and (7) Accelerating the application of science, technology, and innovation, while advancing digital transformation and the development of smart tourism. (8) Innovate management approaches and develop green, smart, safe, and sustainable tourism.
