An Giang Holds Traditional Festival Commemorating the 158th Anniversary of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc's Martyrdom

From October 6 to 8, 2026, the traditional festival commemorating the 158th anniversary of the martyrdom of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868–2026) will take place in Rach Gia Ward, An Giang Province.

This traditional festival is a significant cultural event aimed at honoring and expressing gratitude for the contributions of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc. It also serves to foster patriotism, inspire national pride, and promote the unique historical and cultural values ​​of the An Giang region.

According to the schedule, on October 6, an incense-offering ceremony will be held at the memorial stele marking the site where National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc was executed by French forces in 1868; additionally, visiting delegations will offer incense at the Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House.

That same evening at 8:00 PM, an artistic performance program for residents and tourists will take place at the square of the Provincial Memorial Temple for Heroes, Martyrs, and Benefactors, located in the Northwest Sea-Reclamation Urban Area, Rach Gia Ward.

On October 7, traditional rituals will be conducted at the Nguyen Trung Truc Communal House. Preceding the incense-offering ceremony at the Nguyen Trung Truc Monument Park, a parade featuring flower floats and Unicorn-Lion-Dragon dance troupes will be held, creating a solemn, reverent, and vibrant atmosphere for the festival.

Alongside the ceremonial rites, the festive activities will run from September 20 to October 15, 2026, featuring a wide range of cultural, artistic, and sports events, as well as exhibitions. A highlight among these is the 2026 An Giang Province Vovinam Club Cup. The 5th *Đờn ca tài tử* (Southern amateur music) and *Cải lương* (reformed opera) excerpt festival; a thematic exhibition on the life, career, and contributions of National Hero Nguyễn Trung Trực; a youth theater festival; and calligraphy performances alongside an artistic photography exhibition titled "An Giang – Land and People."

As part of the festival, from October 6 to 11, 2026, at the Provincial Memorial Square for Heroes, Martyrs, and Benefactors, the An Giang Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center will host four booths. These booths aim to showcase and promote the province's image, tourism destinations, OCOP products, commercial goods, specialties, and brands to local residents, tourists, and delegations.

These booths help create an experiential space that links tourism promotion with trade promotion, enabling businesses and OCOP producers to showcase their products, reach consumers, and seek cooperation opportunities. In doing so, they help bring An Giang’s image, products, and brands closer to visitors while highlighting the province's tourism potential and local specialties.
